Enterprise Architecture

System enterprise architecture ultimately determines whether your video platform can meet the strenuous IT network and security requirements of a Fortune 50 multinational corporation. MediaPlatform offers enterprise-grade security, scalability and deployment flexibility that meet world-class standards.

Enterprise Security

MediaPlatform recognizes that security is paramount for our customers, and that is why our products have consistently been recognized for their adherence to the highest enterprise security standards. Across our products, people and services - from how video is accessed and stored all the way through to the company’s development, infrastructure and operational standards - security is a top focus. At the platform level, viewer authorization and authentication are controlled by MediaPlatform application servers using SSO/SAML, and through token authentication when using public CDNs, such as Akamai. For client assets in transit, data is encrypted during transport using HTTPS, RTMPE or RTMPS. For client assets stored in the cloud, MediaPlatform uses Amazon S3 server-side encryption using the AES 256 block chain cipher. MediaPlatform operational enterprise security is documented and enforced via the MediaPlatform Application Security and Business Continuity plan.

Elasticity and Scale

MediaPlatform’s application and distribution enterprise architecture are designed to scale elastically and rapidly to support the inherently spikey nature of services during a live webcast. MediaPlatform's cloud-native architecture taps the best of available cloud services for optimal scalability, elasticity and performance. Video is delivered using the industry’s most agnostic and diverse delivery capabilities, with built in scalability via eCDN, CDN, peering and WAN optimization technologies. At the infrastructure level, the MediaPlatform application uses Amazon EC3 virtual servers in the cloud with auto scaling for fully elastic capability across services, and Amazon S3 scalable storage in the cloud backed up by Glacier cloud archive

Reliability and Redundancy

From the content source through distribution to the viewing device, reliability and redundancy are assured throughout the MediaPlatform ecosystem. Live webcasts use multiple encoders to enable mid-broadcast hot swapping. MediaPlatform Smartpath, which provides an intelligent playlist with multiple failover paths for live streams including to MediaPlatform Edge devices always deployed with backup to ensure no single point of failure. Core authentication, logging, transcoding, recording and monitoring functions are deployed across servers that are load balanced for backup and recovery. The MediaPlatform application is deployed in the Amazon cloud - which spans 55 Availability Zones within 18 geographic Regions and 1 Local Region around the world - which ensures system uptime via a pool of servers with dynamic allocation and site redundant servers in different regions.
