Extends Enterprise Video Capability to Social Media and Collaborative Environments; Allows Registration, Tracking of Viewers
BUSINESS VIDEO EXPO – February 1, 2012 – MediaPlatform, Inc., the enterprise video software company, today announced that its WebCaster software now enables the streaming of live or pre-recorded webcasts and full-featured webinars to Facebook Pages and Microsoft SharePoint Online collaboration sites. This advance in functionality—the first to enable webcast producers to require registration through the Facebook page—will help organizations leverage their investments in online video across their social media presences and information worker collaboration environments.
MediaPlatform developed the Facebook webcasting capability based on a request by one of its clients, Detroit-based TVS Communications Solutions. According to TVS webcasting director Jennifer Swinehart, “We have several large company clients that need to make live webcast presentations to both internal and external audiences at the same time. Facebook is a natural environment to accomplish this goal – and MediaPlatform’s WebCaster is an ideal platform to reach the vast audiences offered by Facebook.”
Many businesses are still trying to find their way in social media marketing. In this context, online video offers new opportunities for social media engagement, especially with more than 800 million active users on Facebook, which makes it the second most accessed website in the United States behind Google (according to a December 2011 Nielsen Research Study). The Facebook webcasting capability benefits organizations that want to add streaming video content to Facebook Pages but prefer to have that video originate in the same enterprise platform that they use for other webcasting purposes in part so they can present to internal and external audiences simultaneously, like TVS’ clients required.
With WebCaster, an organization can produce live or on-demand webcasts for consumption on Macs, PCs, iPads, iPhones and Android devices. That same webcast or webinar can now be deployed to Facebook, with the producer retaining the ability to require viewer registration and track viewer behavior.
WebCaster’s new SharePoint integration connects an organization’s collaboration infrastructure with its video communications capacity. Now, SharePoint users can easily display live or on-demand webcasts to colleagues on team sites hosted on SharePoint Online. The webcasts originate with the WebCaster platform, giving producers control over the content.
“As a majority of businesses in the world standardize their intranets and collaboration toolset on SharePoint, the need for integration of high-quality video is an absolute imperative,” said Kristian Kimbro Rickard, a former Microsoft executive and CEO of Max451, a consultancy that performs SharePoint Vision Labs with global enterprises. “The WebCaster-SharePoint integration is a useful capability for teams that want to extend webcasts into the information workplace.”
According to Jim McGovern, CEO, MediaPlatform, “Online video should be a living, dynamic part of a company’s brand and workplace. As our clients take their video assets to social networks and internal team sites, we give them the ability to control that media and stay efficient in the process.”

Enterprises See an 80% Drop in Internet Bandwidth Use, Eliminating Expensive Network Upgrades
LOS ANGELES—November 22, 2011—Enterprises testing a new cloud-based video on demand (VOD) technology from MediaPlatform, coupled with a Riverbed® Steelhead® wide area network (WAN) optimization solution, have seen an 80 percent reduction in Internet bandwidth consumption over other VOD offerings. Announced today by MediaPlatform, the joint offering integrates MediaPlatform’s PrimeTime media management technology with Riverbed Cloud Steelhead enabling enterprises to optimize Internet bandwidth load while accessing VOD content stored in the cloud.
“As organizations create more video content, using the cloud for storage and management of these media assets is becoming an increasingly attractive alternative,” said Greg Pulier, founder and president, MediaPlatform. “Setting up a cloud video content management system is not without its issues, however. While the cloud lets you avoid costly on-premise server setup and IT resource costs, it can also tax an organization’s Internet connection.”
Typically enterprises maintain a connection to the Internet through its datacenter. As users request videos from a cloud VOD solution, the media file will stream from the cloud to the viewer through that Internet connection. Multiple requests for the same video, however, will generate repeated downloads of the same media asset through the constrained connection. This repetitive traffic is inefficient and can consume the organization’s bandwidth causing performance issues.
The joint offering from MediaPlatform and Riverbed solves this problem by using Riverbed deduplication and compression for on-demand video streams the first time these streams are accessed from a PrimeTime server in the cloud; and by serving subsequent requests for these video streams from the cache of the Steelhead appliance collocated with the users.
“Bandwidth limitations inhibit the ability of distributed organizations to deliver enterprise video over the network,” said Venugopal Pai, vice president, global alliances at Riverbed. “Riverbed has worked with MediaPlatform to provide joint customers with a high-performance VOD solution that dramatically reduces the impact of video traffic on the network without requiring costly bandwidth upgrades.”

Webcasting to Multiple Form Factors a Boon to Corporate HR and Internal Communications
LOS ANGELES – November 8, 2011 –MediaPlatform, Inc., the enterprise video software company, today announced that its WebCaster software now allows live webcasts on Apple iPhones. Extending its mobile strategy beyond previously announced support for the iPad and Android, MediaPlatform lets workers remotely view live training or other corporate video on their iPhones through HTTP live streaming (HLS).
MediaPlatform’s multi-device mobile video strategy aligns with major industry trends. According to Apple’s October 18 earnings call, enterprises continue to adopt iPhones with 93 percent of the Fortune 500 deploying or testing the device, up from 91 percent last quarter, and 60 percent of the Global 500 testing or deploying iPhones, up from 57 percent last quarter.
“The ability to distribute business video to mobile devices opens a new frontier for business communications,” said Steve Vonder Haar, research director of Interactive Media Strategies. “Mobile video makes it easier than ever before to make sure that executives can get their most engaging messages distributed to the right people at the right time – and at the right place. But to make mobile video truly valuable, companies must deploy the software platforms that can help manage the complexities of making mobile distribution a reality.”
According to MediaPlatform CEO Jim McGovern, “By adding iPhone support to our mobile strategy, we’re able to give enterprises what they’ve been asking for – the ability to access webcasts and other corporate video from whatever device, browser and platform they’re using. Introducing interactive, live HLS webcasting to the iPhone, in addition to the iPad and to Android devices, satisfies this need while delivering all the technological and network benefits Adobe Flash Platform brings to the corporate IT department.”
The company’s clients are quickly adapting to the new functionality. “We recently took advantage of WebCaster’s new iOS capability on an earnings call for a large public company,” said Michael Bowden, technical manager for broadcast at UK-based MerchantCantos. ”It was a great service to be able to offer to our client.”
How is Flash Video Supported?
In Adobe Flash Media Enterprise Server 4.5, Adobe added support for HLS, a protocol developed to stream live and recorded video using standard HTTP connections. HLS is a streaming format compatible with the iPhone and iPad, where Flash is not supported. As a result, enterprises using MediaPlatform’s WebCaster, which uses FMS 4.5 and its HLS capabilities —are able to webcast video to remote workers using the aforementioned mobile devices.
More on Webcaster and Its New Features:
MediaPlatform also announced several new features to its WebCaster software. WebCaster, which is available in cloud-based and on-premises versions, enables enterprises and digital media producers to produce, broadly distribute and monitor interactive live and on-demand webcasts that feature streaming video, PowerPoint® slides, audio, surveys, polls and screen demoing. New features include:
- Screencasting by software only instead of requiring special equipment such as capture cards or external capture stations. This allows for greater convenience, is less expensive and is especially useful for remote or occasional presenters.
- F4V encoding that supports the H.264 codec, which is required for webcasting on iOS devices
- Linked assets, which save time, space and bandwidth by providing the ability to present image and videos using URLs rather than uploading whole files to the WebCaster system
- Rich text editor, enables producers to create/edit the lobby, invitation emails, etc. in a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) mode

Enterprise Video Software Company Exhibiting in Booth #87 at Streaming Media West in Los Angeles, November 8-9
LOS ANGELES – November 2, 2011 – MediaPlatform, Inc., the enterprise video software company, has been named to Streaming Media Magazine’s inaugural list of “The 100 Companies that Matter Most in Online Video.” In a selection process that started this fall with more than 200 companies across the online video ecosystem, the magazine’s staff and contributing editors chose MediaPlatform as one of the companies doing the “most important and innovative work in online video today.”
“The companies in the Streaming Media 100 represent many different pieces of the online video ecosystem,” said Streaming Media editor Eric Schumacher-Rasmussen, “but they all have one thing in common: The world of online video today would be markedly different without any of them. Each one, in its own way, has made the online video industry what it is today and is pushing it towards the future.”
Streaming Media said the magazine’s goal was to create a list of companies that are the most important, most innovative, and have had the most impact on the space in the recent past and are likely to continue to do so in the future.
MediaPlatform’s flagship product, WebCaster — available in cloud-based and on-premises versions — enables enterprises and digital media producers to produce, broadly distribute and monitor interactive live and on-demand webcasts that feature streaming video, PowerPoint® slides, audio, surveys, polls and screen demoing. Over the past year, MediaPlatform has introduced:
- The first enterprise webcasting software enabled with multicasting video to the Adobe Flash Platform using the Adobe Flash Media Server, a process that results in radical improvements in network efficiency— and lower costs — compared to traditional streaming techniques.
- The ability to deliver live webcasts on the Apple iPad® using HTTP live streaming (HLS).
- Pay-per-view capabilities on its WebCaster software
- Support for UTF-8 to enable text in any language and Adobe Stage Video to enable audience members to improve their playback quality while reducing processor usage by up to 85 percent.
- Partnerships with other industry leaders such as Onstream and Adobe to help these companies bring next-generation webcasting to a greater audience
“Every new feature we add to our webcasting and media management software is designed to make a significant difference for enterprises that want to benefit from online video,” said Jim McGovern, CEO, MediaPlatform. “We’re grateful that Streaming Media, the most has influential magazine in the space, has recognized our work as important and innovative and we look forward to continuing to bring innovations to the industry for years to come.”
Support for UTF-8, Stage Video Offers Text in Any Language, Higher Quality Playback with Reduced CPU Usage
LOS ANGELES – October 11, 2011 –MediaPlatform, Inc., the enterprise video software company, today announced two new features designed to enhance its cloud-based webcasting software to meet increasing demand worldwide. With support for UTF-8, MediaPlatform’s Webcaster can include text in any language. Incorporating Adobe Stage Video feature into Webcaster video player enables audience members to improve their playback quality while reducing processor usage by up to 85 percent.
“Video use is increasing significantly in the enterprise, but it will explode even more when these companies are able to reach their international audiences more effectively with high quality video and lower processing requirements,” said Denis Khoo, chief technology officer, MediaPlatform. “By adding support for features such as UTF-8 and Stage Video, WebCaster continues to add the functionality our customers are demanding to make webcasting an even more attractive means of communicating company-wide.”
UTF-8 is a universal character set transformation format, a multibyte character encoding for Unicode that can represent every character in the Unicode character set. With support for UTF-8, MediaPlatform enables all languages so users worldwide can view the webcast text in their native language. For example, if the enterprise or producer is webcasting a training seminar to Japan, the text and bios can all be in Japanese.
Stage Video from Adobe helps websites and webcasts to deliver best-in-class video across screens and browsers by enabling access to hardware acceleration of the entire video pipeline. Incorporated into MediaPlatform’s Webcaster video player, Stage Video gives audience members advanced streaming controls for smoother, higher-quality playback. It also offers adaptive bitrate management, and content protection, consistency and reach across browsers and more than one billion computers, mobile devices and TVs.
MediaPlatform’s WebCaster — available in cloud-based and on-premises versions — enables enterprises and digital media producers to produce, broadly distribute and monitor interactive live and on-demand webcasts that feature streaming video, PowerPoint® slides, audio, surveys, polls and screen demoing.

Empower Mobile Information Workers with First Enterprise HLS Webcasting Solution for iPads
LOS ANGELES, CA– Sep 8, 2011 – MediaPlatform, the enterprise video software company, today announced that its WebCaster software is the first to deliver live webcasts on the Apple iPad® using HTTP live streaming (HLS). WebCaster enables iPad users to view and interact with live presentations that integrate video streaming from Abode® Flash® Media Enterprise Server 4.5 and PowerPoint® slides. Enterprises adopting this technology benefit from giving their information workers greater mobility and remote participation in events, while leveraging the powerful network efficiencies and universal nature of Flash.
“Getting Flash video on to the iPad is an absolute ‘must have’ for so many of our large enterprise clients,” said Andrew Irving, director of Webcasting at Mediaco, one of Canada’s largest event production companies. “The MediaPlatform iPad solution is an important innovation that fits with our mobile webcasting vision.”
Tablet computing is growing rapidly in corporations. Estimates of iPad adoption by large enterprises range between 65 and 80 percent. On those tablets, video is seen as a boon to mobile information workers and their managers. A recent survey by Interactive Media Strategies revealed that 51 percent of corporate users would “view business video more frequently” if they had access to it on a tablet. By adding iPad support, MediaPlatform is fulfilling its commitment to live webcasting on a full range of tablets. The company has offered webcasting to Android devices since earlier this year.
In Adobe Flash Media Enterprise Server 4.5, which became generally available today, Adobe added support for HLS, a protocol developed to stream live and recorded video using standard HTTP connections. HLS is the only streaming format compatible with the iPad, where Flash is not supported. MediaPlatform has worked closely with Adobe over the past 18 months, developing the only enterprise video tool that enables enterprises to take advantage of multicast fusion on the Flash Platform — and using the beta version of Flash Media Enterprise Server 4.5 to make WebCaster compatible with iPads.
“Enterprises need their employees to be able to access webcasts and other corporate video from whatever device, browser and platform they’re using,” said Greg Pulier, president, MediaPlatform. “Our introduction of interactive, live HLS webcasting to the iPad satisfies this enterprise need while delivering all the technological and network benefits of the Adobe Flash Platform to the corporate IT department.”

Enterprise Grade Video Streaming Powering a New Trend in the Music Industry
LOS ANGELES – JULY 29, 2011 – MediaPlatform, the webcasting software and media management platform provider, tonight will be serving as the streaming technology partner for the “Soulja Boy Birthday Bash” webcast. The live pay-per-view event, which will feature live performances by rapper Soulja Boy, as well as participation from a number of his celebrity friends, is expected to reach an audience of more than one million viewers. Chic Management Group, the event producer, selected MediaPlatform as its technology partner due to the company’s extensive experience with large-scale live webcasts for global corporations.
“Though we usually work in the corporate sector, our platform is well suited to the demands of a major music webcast event such as Soulja Boy’s birthday,” said Jim McGovern, CEO, MediaPlatform. “We routinely support large live events inside the corporate firewall for our clients around the world.”
The music industry is increasingly turning to the Web as it evolves its business model in the wake of changes in how audiences want to consume content. Live, pay-per-view webcasts such the Soulja Boy Birthday Bash also represent a way for artists to earn significant fees by reaching their fans directly through Facebook, Twitter and Google+.
MediaPlatform’s cloud-based webcasting tools make it all possible with features that were developed for corporate use, but which also present great options for musical artists, including:
- Flexible provisioning of infrastructure on demand
- Customized templates and “skins”
- Flexible production teaming options
- Rich reporting and event data capabilities
- Multiple remote presenters
- The ability to mix on-camera presenters with pre-recorded material
Chic Management Group, which has produced numerous concerts for Soulja Boy and other artists, needed to find a technology that could easily handle a slew of specialized requirements, including the creation of a customized viewer interface and an event “lobby,” as well as simple pay-per-view capabilities. MediaPlatform’s WebCaster provides these capabilities along with built in PayPal integration.
“We needed a true partner for this event, not just stand-alone software,” says Shica Little, CEO, Chic Management Group. “MediaPlatform has been great to work with because their employees understand the pressures of a large live event. Its team knows how to handle the technical and creative issues that inevitably come up.”

Also Partners with CaptionIT and Chatroll for Closed Captioning and
Private Messaging During Cloud-based Webcasts
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.—June 15, 2011—MediaPlatform, the provider of cloud-based webcasting and media management software, today announced the addition of several new features to its WebCaster platform, including pay-per-view through PayPal. This will enable associations and learning institutions to drive additional revenue from online courses or conferences when individuals cannot travel to them. MediaPlatform has also partnered with CaptionIT for live or on-demand closed captioning; and Chatroll, for private and public messaging within the webcast.
“Different industries demand different features when producing webcasting events, and MediaPlatform strives to meet all of their requirements in an easy-to-use, brandable and scalable platform,” said Greg Pulier, president, MediaPlatform. “Associations and learning institutions, for example, all need pay-per-view functionality to monetize their individual courses; government organizations and associations require closed captioning for the hearing impaired; and the increase in social media and demand for more engaging webcast experiences has made private chat within webcasts a ‘must-have’ for almost everyone. They asked; we provided.”
Partners Bring Closed-Captioning/Private Chat
Closed captioning typically shows a transcription of the audio portion of a program as it occurs. To offer this functionality during a WebCaster event, MediaPlatform teamed with Caption IT, LLC, a full service agency offering real-time, offline and post-production captioning. The company has national and state certified captioners and staff located across the nation, in all time zones, to best meet their clients’ needs.
“Many government regulations require closed captioning to meet the needs of millions of Americans with varying levels of hearing impairment,” said Maureen DeRuyter, chief executive officer, Caption IT. “We know how important accurate captioning is for these individuals and strive for perfection in all aspects of our services. Providing these services for MediaPlatform’s clients will open the door for the company with organizations that could not have used WebCaster without closed captioning.”
MediaPlatform’s private chat capabilities come from Chatroll, a provider of cross-platform, real-time interactive solutions that allow audiences to engage each other, and those producing the webcast, by privately or publicly commenting or asking questions.
“Chatroll’s goal is to reach and engage audiences with live interactive events,” said Arlen Panchoo, director, business development, Chatroll. “Adding private chat capabilities to MediaPlatform’s Webcaster is a highly effective way to actively attract more people to events and deliver a more social and engaging event experience.”

PrimeTime Now Offers iOS & Android Support, More Customization, HTTP Streaming & Remote LDAP
Streaming Media East—NEW YORK CITY, May 10, 2011—MediaPlatform, the provider of cloud-based webcasting and media management software, today announced mobile support and other significant upgrades to PrimeTime, its YouTube-like software for the enterprise. PrimeTime, a rich media management/online video platform, enables organizations to preserve, organize, rate and centralize valuable knowledge and corporate media. The new version is now compatible with Apple iOS devices such as iPhones and iPads and most Android devices with Flash, provides a completely customizable user interface, and supports HTTP Streaming for more powerful video delivery and remote LDAP for easy sign-in within the enterprise.
“We’re in the midst of a big surge in the use of both video and mobile devices in the enterprise, a reflection of a changing workforce and an increase in corporate virtualization,” said Greg Pulier, founder and president, MediaPlatform. “As a result, people need a central platform that enables them to organize, share and locate the videos on whatever device they are using. The new version of PrimeTime – with iOS mobile support — makes it easy to keep track of these videos across both private and public channels while also enabling enterprises to customize the interface for the individual needs of the entire organization and the individual groups that are using it.”
PrimeTime was first introduced in 2008 to make all media content accessible in one place for easy retrieval and sharing. The platform, available in both on-premises and software-as-a-service (SaaS) versions, increases the reach of video and webcasts in an organization because viewers can watch at their own convenience, search for videos, rate and comment on videos, and share them at their convenience. Channel and social networking features let employees and partners help one another find valuable organizational knowledge. Back-end security and administrative features, such as role-based permissions, provide access control and related security.
New iOS and Android Support, Other New Features
By default, if users upload a video into the new PrimeTime, it will encode for HTTP Streaming playback in both Flash players and iOS devices. When loading the homepage or a particular video page, the page will detect if the viewer is coming from an iOS device and will load a special page that uses an HTML5 video player and plays the iOS compatible HTTP Stream. PrimeTime is also compatible with most Android devices that have Flash installed.
In addition to iOS and Android support, the new version of PrimeTime provides:
- Administrative privileges at the channel level, enabling individual groups within the organization to manage their own dedicated, access controlled PrimeTime channels.
- HTTP Streaming Support: Since most network equipment is optimized for HTTP traffic, PrimeTime can now leverage that optimization for more powerful delivery of video on demand (VOD) across the organization.
- Remote Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) Support: By offering remote LDAP support, PrimeTime users do not have to log in separately to PrimeTime, they will already be logged in through their enterprise’s standard LDAP.
- More standardized reporting and analytic capability on system usage.
