Why Employees Should Watch Videos at Work

In 2012 American retailer J.C. Penney made news when it was revealed that their employees watched an estimated five million YouTube videos in January while on the job. It was not exactly the information the then struggling retailer wanted to hear. Their CEO at the time was less than impressed and went as far as to call the culture “pathetic.” Over 1500 employees were subsequently laid off. Were these employees really just a bunch of slackers? Or did J.C. Penney fail to capitalize on an opportunity, and medium, to engage their employees?
